Club Ratings
The Crankshaw Sports Stats Club Ratings are based on the performance of the club in domestic competition and the strength of the league in which the club participates.
Domestic Performance
The performance of the club is measured using the following statistics: matches played (MP), goals scored for (GF), goals allowed (GA).
(1) Performance = (GF+GA)/MP
Consequently, the distribution of performance is centered around zero. The "average" team, that is, a team that scores as many goals as they allow, would therefore have a score of zero.
Calculation of Club Ratings
The club rating is equal to the performance plus the strength of the league (SoL).
(2) Club Rating = Performance + SoL
Consequently, the distribution of performance is centered around the strength of the league (SoL). The "average" team in a league, that is, a team that scores as many goals as they allow, would therefore have a club rating equal to the Strength of the league (SoL).
Strength of League (SoL) derivation
The club rating is highly dependent upon the strength of the league in which it participates. The strength of league (SoL) is derived based on three factors: 1) how teams from the league have fared in FIFA confederation interleague play, 2) how teams that have participated in FIFA confederation interleague play perform relative to the league "average" and 3) the relative strength of the FIFA confederation to which the league belongs. The following
link
details the SoL for all countries that have participated in FIFA confederation interleague play from 1994-2013.
How to interpret Club Ratings
The club ratings thus derived allow the user to compare any two clubs for any league for which a SoL can be derived. The following table details an interpretation of the ratings. The value R/P is the rating per player (Club Rating/11) and gives an approximation of the average player rating for the club.
Club Rating | R/P | Meaning |
100.10 | 9.1 | Elite Professional |
99.00 | 9.0 | Top Professional |
97.90 | 8.9 | Professional |
96.80 | 8.8 | Lower Professional |
94.60 | 8.6 | Semi-Professional |
93.50 | 8.5 | Elite Amateur |
92.40 | 8.4 | Top Amateur |
90.20 | 8.2 | Amatuer |
88.00 | 8.0 | Lower Amatuer |
